YANGON (RANGOON)

Yangon, the capital city of Myanmar. Yangon is lies in the fertile delta country of south Myanmar, on the wide Yangon River about 30Km from the sea, is the gateway to Myanmar. Evergreen and cool with lush tropical trees, shady parks and beautiful lakes. Yangon has earned the name of ''the Garden City of the East.'' Founded by King Alaungphaya on the site of a small settlement called Dagon when he conquered Lower Myanmar in 1755. Yangon means ''End of Strife'' which was anglicized to Rangoon after the British annexed Myanmar in 1885. Towering almost 100 meters above the green city-scope of Yangon the luminous Shwedagon Pagoda is the landmark visible from miles around. One of the wonders of the world, the Shwedagon is believed to have been builtmore than 2500 years ago. Other highlights are the colossal Reclining Buddha of Chaukhtattkyee Pagoda, Kaba Aye (World Peace Pagoda) and the Great Cave, National Museum, Bogyoke Aung San Park and Kandawgyi (Royal Lake ), the famous shopping centre Bogyoke Market and FMI center. Yangon night life can be experienced around City Central Plazas where restaurants, music pubs and Karaoke lounges are located.


 

SHWEDAGON PAGODA

The main attraction of highlights in Yangon is the world famous Shwedagon Pagoda, it towering almost 100 meters above the green cityscape of Yangon, it is one of the famous landmark in Yangon city, the pagoda itself is 326ft high, studded with 8688 solid gold plates and each is of 1sq ft wide, thousands of diamonds and precious colorful jewels are decorated on top of the Bud. It is said to be believed that the pagoda is built about 2500 years ago. But the historical facts is written on a big broken stone slabs which was dug out from the ground at 12ft near the pagoda by professor of Pali language Dr. Forhenmer in 1880 AD. On the slab is dated back to 1485 AD and is written by the Mon King Dhamazedi in two languages, Myanmar and Mon. Visitors whoever stroll around the golden shrine on the platform, feels the sacred peaceful atmosphere of quietness, is so wonderful that will never by forgotten.

 

BAGO

The ancient city is about 50 miles far from Yangon, once ruled by Mon Kings, it known as the Oktha Pegu Dynasty Bago. The cith was frequently mentioned by earlier Europeans visitors as an important seaport. Bagon kingdom was under the rule of Bagan empire during the reign of Bagan kings, started from King Anawrahta in 1057 to King Narathihapati in 1287 AD. Than became the capital city of Mon. Many of the Pagodas and monuments had built during the rules of Kings in Bago. Today there are many famous pagodas in Bago such as Shwe Maw Daw Pagoda, Shwe tha Hlyaung reclining Buddha Image, Kyaikpun the four sitting Image and Kalyani Sima. Bago is a nice place one day  excursions for Yangon.

 

KYAIKTIYO (THE GOLDEN ROCK)

Located southeast of Yangon and about 160km from Yangon, Kyaiktiyo or "Golden Rock" Pagoda is one of the most famous and treasured landmarks of Myanmar. The small stupa, just 7.3 meters high, sits atop the 'Golden Rock ', a massive, gold leaded boulder delicately balanced on the very edge of a cliff at the top of Mountain kyaikiyo. The boulder and the cliff are two separate pieces and they barely touch each other. From KIN PUN camp, a steep and rough 11km road leads to the upper stagging point, a journey made in open truck, and then hiking up steep paths which approx. 4km to the ''Golden rock'' Sedan chairs, carried by four men are for rent for the wearier travelers. The atmosphere surrounding kyaikiyo during the height of the pilgrimage season, November to March, is charged with magic and devotion, especially when the glinting boulder is bathed in the purple, sometimes misty light of dawn. Pilgrims chant, light candles and meditate all through the night.

 

BAGAN

Theancient capital cityof Bagan located in the middle position of Ayeyarwady valley at Upper Myanmar, which is belong to the division of Mandalay. Bagan is the birth place of Myanmar Civilization. This glittering ancient capital with some 5000 pagodas was founded in 849, whose splendor climaxed during the reign of the first Burmese King Anawrahta in 1057, with over 2000 buildings in an area of 40sq km, making Bagan one of the richest archaeological sites in Asia today. In this rarefied atmosphere of a thousand golden white and red brick domes, the ?Shwe Zigon Pagoda?, the?Sulamani?and ?Ananta?temples lay prominently preserving Buddha's relic's together with art and culture of ancient times. And addition, the most famous Myanmar's handicraft - Lacquer ware is produced in Bagan.

 

MT. POPA

The Mount of Popa is about 32miles far from Bagan, meaning in Sanskrit is "flower", this solitary peak, coming out of an extinct volcano and home of the Nats, the Myanmar spirits worshipped still today is defined as the "Olympus of Myanmar". Rich in legends, Mount Popa is an ethereal place, especially during the Nat festival (During April) attracts thousands of pilgrims. An easy trip from Bagan or just a stop form Yangon.


INLE LAKE

Inle Lake located in the Southern Shan State, and amidst hazy blue mountains rim the lake on both sides, became a outrageously picturesque beautiful Inle lake, this 14km waterway is home of the renowned leg-rowers. Here, the villages of stilted house, floating market and floating gardens are built on stills over the lake water. The people of INTHA, who propel their boats by standing at the stern on one leg and wrapping the other leg around the oar. This strange technique has arisen because of the floating vegetation found all over the lake, it's necessary to stand up to plot a path around the obstacles. Beside the crystal scenery lake view, you could also visit the famous ?Ngaphe Chaung Monastery?known as jumping cat monastery, where a dozen cats living in the monastery have been trained by the monks to jump through a ring on call. After this, you also could visit the silk-weaving home industries. Inle Lake is one of the most charming places in Myanmar exhibiting a colorful array of magnificent sceneryand interesting cultural life.
